What does your membership entail?
In the Society’s first years, in the 18th century, all new members were introduced by a senior member, and directly thereafter, the new member had to give a speech before the Society. New members also had to donate – either books of a certain value, or money. Members were expected to invest in the Society.
Today, conditions are a bit different. As a member, you have no formal obligations and the membership is free. However, we still wish and expect that our members invest in the Society in various ways. We hope that your membership in DKNVS Academy will bring us mutual benefits.
Our members are the Academy’s greatest asset and unique resource!

- You were nominated by two Academy members, and you were elected into the Academy with at least 2/3 of the votes in an election meeting.
- You are a part of a community of outstanding academics.

Put your mark on the Academy meetings
- Suggest a topic for Academy lectures! Academy meetings are designed to be relevant and engaging.
- Say yes when you are asked to give a lecture.
- Bring your students and fellow academics to Academy meetings. Meetings are free of charge and open for all.

Access to networks
- Participate in international workshops through ALLEA (All European Academies).
- Contribute to consultative statements on behalf of DKNVS in research policy issues.
- Nominate new members to the Academy.
Apply for grants. Support others. Publish.
- Apply for research grants managed by DKNVS. We continuously support various research projects.
- Support other scientists by nominating them for medals, scientific awards and scholarships.
- Publish in Skrifter (“Transactions”), Norway’s oldest scientific journal.

- Subscribe to the monthly Norwegian newsletter, or the twice yearly English newsletter to get an update on DKNVS’ events and activities.
